3 Reasons why Traveling and Dating are alike

Traveling and dating share several commonalities. They are both always evolving, ever-curious, and never boring. They both are bounded by nature; i.e., humans, because of want and necessity, can never stray from them. Without these two necessities, humanity will cease to exist, growth in community will be stunted, resources exhausted, creativity blackened-out, love shelfed for urges, emotional solace ignored and boredom all the time.

This is why these both activities should be discovered, enjoyed and done ever-frequently. Though, because of these natural joys and escapes to bliss, humanity will implode…but that’s another topic all together (think over-population, destruction of resources, pollution, disease, pestilence, hell fire, second coming…well, maybe not the last two, but close).

Evolving

Travel and dating should be pictured as organic. They change with time. Travel is never the same twice: you may repeatedly visit Costa Rica hundreds of times but you will never get the same experience (yes, you will probably experience the same if you revisit the same hotel or resort; these places pride themselves to be consistent, comforting to their clientèle, unlike nature and humans). On your travels you will encounter personalities shaped by cultures unlike your own. You will experience billions of possibilities that lay ahead of you way while you browse the market or jump Victoria Falls in Africa. You will be amidst in an ever-changing platform which will be yours to hate or love.

Dating is just like that. You meet people that may make your heart race, palms sweat or your nausea to spring about. The game of dating flows with the times; you may dance to disco, Macarena or Hip-hop. The way you interact to people interacting with you is ever-changing – possibilities of what might happen are endless and never the same.

And the end results of either Travel and Dating may offer you a gift of an actual being containing endless potential or a favorite destination to call home.

Curiosity

Traveling is just that: being curios. You travel to understand, experience and have fun! Curiosity fuels this action. It makes you throw away the fear of the unknown, and pushes you to a want of closure. You will walk out of that airport and breathe in African air and say, “Alright this is it.” And boom, you’re face-to-face with the unknown, what’s there to do now? Go explore.

And because you’re lonely, horny, biological clock is ticking or all the above, you go out and date. You want to meet a person, share a few drinks, laughs, some heated moments – basically have a good time. These desires make you explore the unknown, make you do mistakes you wouldn’t do (you know what I’m talking about…naught, naughty), connect with a person and get to know what they are about.

Curiosity is the catalyst. Just ride the wave and explore.

Never Boring

I don’t think I ever had a boring moment when traveling. Not even while I waited for a bus to arrive or during down time. I am out my element, miles away from home, the bed smells like world-knows-what, and the neighbors are trying to break the springs on their bed. What is more exciting than that!? You’re a fish out of water. An explorer. An adventurer. Alone to do what you want, what you want to see and do – you are out there! You’re an artist of life – go create some good stories to tell your friends back home. It is the way you look at things that make moments good or bad. Don’t project.

When dating, boredom can seem like the plague, but this is a matter of how you perceive things. You are getting to know a person, understanding who they are, now, if that guy or girl bores you well then that should be a signal that this person may not be right for you. If you really like a person boredom won’t be perceived because there is no ennui when there’s a connection. I don’t ever get bored with my best friend when there’s nothing to do, I’m hanging out with her and that’s just as cool.
